The Wind Cap Bengali Meaning
There was once a lad who wanted to be a sailor but his mother would not let him go to the sea.
একদা একটি ছেলে ছিল যে নাবিক হতে চাইত কিন্তু তার মা তাকে সমুদ্রে যেতে দিত না।
“Child, what do you know of sailing?” she would say.
“বাছা, তুমি জল পথে ভ্রমন সম্পর্কে কী জানো?” তিনি বলতেন।
“You’re a farmer’s son, you know the turn of the seasons and the smell of the soil but you do not know the sea.”
“তুমি একজন কৃষকের ছেলে, তুমি জানো ঋতু পরিবর্তন এবং মাটির গন্ধ কিন্তু তুমি সমুদ্র সম্পর্কে জানো না।”
Now the boy whose name was Jon, had always obeyed his mother.
এখন ওই ছেলেটি যার নাম জন, সে সবসময় তার মায়ের কথা মান্য করে।
So he went about his farm work with a heavy heart but did not again mention the sea.

One day, he had been walking behind the plough.
একদিন, সে লাঙলের পিছনে পিছনে হাঁটছিল।
He all but ran over a tiny green turtle on a clod of dirt.
সে কাদার ডেলা দিয়ে একটা ছোট্ট কচ্ছপকে প্রায় চাপায় দিয়ে দিয়েছিল।
He picked the turtle up and set it on his head where he knew it would be safe.
সে কচ্ছপটিকে তুলে নিল এবং তার মাথায় রাখল যেখানে সে জানত এটা সুরক্ষিত থাকবে।
When he was done with ploughing, Jon plucked the turtle from his head.

To his utter surprise he found that, it had turned into a tiny green fairy man that stood upon his palm and bowed.

“Since you put me on your head like a hat to keep me safe, I shall give you a different kind of cap in return, the kind sailors most desire.
“যেহেতু তুমি আমাকে তোমার মাথায় একটা টুপির মতো রেখেছিলে আমাকে নিরাপদে রাখার জন্য, তাই এর পরিবর্তে আমি তোমাকে একধরনের টুপি দেব, যেটা নাবিকেরা সবথেকে বেশি পচ্ছন্দ করে।
A cap full of wind. But there’s one warning, no human hand will ever be able to take it off.”
একটা হাওয়া ভরা টুপি। কিন্তু একটা শর্ত আছে, কোনো মানুষের হাত একটা খুলতে পারবে না।”
Then with a blink, the fairy man disappeared leaving a striped cap behind.
তারপর চোখের পলকে, পরীটা অদৃশ্য হয়ে গেল ডরা কাটা একটা টুপি রেখে দিয়ে।
Young Jon put the cap on his head and ran home to tell his mother.
যুবক জন টুপিটা তার মাথায় পরে নিল এবং বাড়ির দিকে ছুটল তার মাকে বলার জন্য।
“No good will come of the wind cap,” she said.
“এই হাওয়া ভরা টুপি দিয়ে ভালো কিছু হবে না,” তিনি বললেন।
But the lad would have none of her cautions. The very next day, putting on the sailor’s cap, he ran off to the sea.

On seeing a ship anchored near the shore, he requested the captain to take him along.

And it was good because neither could he lose the cap nor could it be stolen from him.

Since it was wind that sailors called for, and wind that Jon could supply he soon became very popular.

He promised he would return but the captain was unmoved.

However, Jon could not stop dreaming of the land.

“It’s his fault,” the sailors cried. They shouted in anger and fear and tried to rip the cap off his head.

For the rest of his life, Jon spent half the year on a ship and half on the shore till at last he owned his own boat and a hundred acre farm land.
